2016 Oscar Fashion
Last night's Oscars were, as always, a mixed bag. The controversy over the lack of diversity of nominees was at the forefront, with host Chris Rock making some poignant points, often followed by taking his jokes a step too far, and many pre-recorded segments making the racial issue a punchline. Leo finally won his first Oscar, and Spotlight won best picture at a time when we really need to remember how important a free and daring press is. The Oscar presentation itself featur

2015 Emmy Fashion Wins
The Emmys were a week ago, and as always, the red carpet was covered in celebs wearing what seemed like great ideas the week before. Here are my favorite looks from the evening. Revenge's Kerry Washington is my pick for best dressed in her chainmail-like Marc Jacobs gown. It's shorter than most Emmy dresses, and transparent, but the sparkle of the embroidered fabric kept things PG. Washington would be able to pull off a burlap sack, but in this dress she is a glamorous Joa

What Happened to Barbie?
If you know me well, you probably aren't surprised that I was really into Barbies as a kid. I have often told people that Barbie and Ken are responsible for my love of fashion and pursuit of that as my career. Not too long ago, my best friends and I were group texting about the possibilities of trying to dress like our favorite Barbies (most of my favorites are included in the photo to the left- please note that pink one has GLOW IN THE DARK STARS all up on her dress). We

Style Icon: Oscar de la Renta
I was very sad to read that Oscar de la Renta passed away tonight. He was an inspiring designer with a rare talent for crafting formalwear, mixing color and silhouette and embellishment in ways that managed to be interesting and creative but not over-the-top or tacky. He made design seem effortless. He was one of the greats. Respect is due. Thank you. #fashion #styleicon #memorial

Illustrated Selfies
My good friend Kristin has always impressed me by simply being herself. We studied fashion together, and her illustrations always seemed effortless and amazing. She's currently on a five-week hiking adventure in Austria, but I really wanted to share something she started in her few days before the hiking began, illustrated selfies of her traveling ensembles. Not only is she an impressive artist, she's an amazing dresser, so I really enjoy seeing those two skills combined. H

Karlie Kloss at the CFDA Awards
Here's another example of a great summery formal dress seen at the CFDA Awards. Model Karlie Kloss wore this silky Band of Outsiders gown complete with side slits and cutouts, perfect for a warm summer night. Band of Outsiders tends to impress me with their casually chic designs, and the one item I was able to snag of theirs on mega-sale is impeccably made. #fashion #cfdaawards

CFDA Awards 2014
OK guys, I'll be honest, my finger is so off the pulse of current fashion that I am lucky to even recognize the names of some of the winners of this year's CFDA Awards. But if there's one thing I'm always on the pulse of, it's judging celebrities' outfits. That said, I wasn't too excited about the photos from the ceremony, but a handful of looks I thought were worth a post or two (I'll post all my picks on Pinterest, don't fret). Don't hate me, but you won't find Fashion Ico

Ulyana Sergeenko
I'm not sure if I've been living under a rock or if I've stumbled upon something wonderous and rare via Pinterest, but yesterday I first saw lookbook images of a few older collections by Russian designer Ulyana Sergeenko. Some of the looks seem to be straight out of another era, while others take a silhouette or technique with historical roots and modernizing it with skirt length, transparency, or sometimes just with awesomely off-beat accessories. The lookbooks often conta

The 2014 Met Gala: "Charles James: Beyond Fashion"
Charles James is one of my favorite designers of all time, and it is so wonderful to know that this year's Costume Institute exhibit is all about his work. He was a master of architecture and drape, and his patterns are works of art themselves. Just ask Zac Posen, who's made a career biting James' classic designs. I always want people to dress the theme at Met Galas, and as usual, many partygoers failed at that. A few even wore mini skirts, and I'm sorry, but if it's calle

Mixed Blessings
Sometimes change comes when you aren't expecting it. Sometimes it comes when you are. Sometimes both happen at the same time and you get to start anew. I have moved into a new home (still in Portland, OR) and am looking for a new job. While the timing could have been better, these things are for the best. And, job searching means being asked if you have an online portfolio. I didn't, and in the midst of the move, I didn't have time to do anything fancy. So I threw toget
